Maymont is a 100-acre American estate, an extraordinary gift given to us by James and Sallie Dooley who lived here from 1893 to 1925. Situated on 100 acres along the James River, guests can visit the gardens, enjoy wildlife, explore the mansion, or just sit under a tree and think. Whether strolling, touring, or watching river otters play, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Robins Nature & Visitor Center at Maymont is dedicated to native Virginia wildlife. Rather than displaying a host of exotic creatures from distant seas, the Nature Center interprets the natural environment of the James River. Guests are astonished to discover the staggering variety of species living in Richmond's own backyard.
