St. John's Church

These words by Patrick Henry stating 'Give me liberty of give me death' were spoken at St. John's Church in March of 1775. The Revolution began the following month when shots were fired at Lexington and Concord. This church is a Historic Landmark and is the oldest wooden church in Virginia. There are daily guided tours including time for questions and answers. Tours begin every hour and half hour.

Virginia State Capitol and Executive Mansion

This edifice designed by Thomas Jefferson is 216 years old and is a working capitol building. It was modernized and expanded in June of 2007. Tour the various chambers and the art works throughout the building. A famous statue of George Washington by Houdon sits in the rotunda. The Executive mansion is a Federalist style architecture and is the oldest continuously occupied governor's residence in the U.S.
